Violet,

As Aristotle said ”It is in your darkest moments, we must focus on the light”

Violet is a retired guidance teacher and counsellor, who in 2005 set up Positive Mental Health Foundation Barna. She recognised the need to educate and train young people in their development of positive mental health skills. Simply put; To reduce the stigma attached to mental health matters.

In the last 10 years, Violet has visited 38 schools in the West of Ireland running her youth seminars, reaching an amazing 5,000 students. She is the recipient of many a social and mayoral awards - which is no surprise as she is only eligible for nominal Government funding. She is very proud to show me her awards, as I enter her small office, to one side of her house.

I am here today, to donate a cheque to Violet, from the process of my ketchup sales. I can tell it is much appreciated, although she would rather go inside, for a cup of tea and biscuits, than pose with me and that big cheque.

Thank you Violet for your commitment, dedication and hard work in this tough line of work.
